B2 Ride to Bolton by Bowland by Phil Durrigan
The first sunny, still day of the year saw a large number assemble on the cobbles, seven of whom made up the B2 ride.
We set off towards Chipping via Butt Hill and had covered (about) seven miles when I remembered to switch my Garmin on!
We maintained a reasonable pace up to Cow Ark before starting the long drag and dramatic undulations towards Easington. As we emerged above Slaidburn we were joined briefly by ex-(founder) member Brian Hughes and we elected to try an alternative approach to Bolton-by-Bowland, i.e. via Threap Green ....and were rewarded by a long downhill run to our brew stop, where we bade farewell to Brian.
The B1 gang were already in situ including Cherry Scone who had struggled with the pace set by those big rough boys and elected to return with us.
The outward journey had been quite tough, particularly for those of us just getting back into the groove after a bit of a lay-off, i.e.Luke Van Lincoln Peter Rawlinson, Martin Oglesby and myself, whereas regulars Shane Blackmore and David Hodgson took it in their stride and we were all kept in good order by perennial rear gunner Dave Corless- (he's 72 two weeks on Tuesday you know!).
The only real challenge was the drag up through Chaigley from where it was plain sailing via Thornley, Whitechapel and back to base.
A great day out in perfect conditions and thanks to all the above for their company and good humour. A few stats (not withstanding the first seven miles!) - 53 miles covered at an average of 12 mph, 3717 feet of ascent and max speed 49 mph.
