B1 Ride to Arnside via Milnthorpe 62 Miles - Shane Blackmore
Today was my first ride outside in nearly twelve months which I had been looking forward to all week.
As I arrived at the Bellflower the A group were getting ready to leave.
A Total of 10 riders arrived for the B1's, so I asked Sim if he would lead one of the groups of 5, and I would lead the other due to the Chairman been out injured. Phil was a little disappointed to say the least as this was a new route he had created.
The first B1 group of five set off with Sim in charge. Shortly after I set off with the second group which consisted of Violet, Karen, Phil, myself and a new member to the club Paul.
Leaving Garstang we headed to Scorton, Quernmore, where we passed the first B1 group. While we caught our breath as we turned onto Quernmore road Sim's group passed us not to be seen again until we arrived back in Garstang we carried on to Caton, As we approached the junction for Nether Kellet Road there was the sound of a bike and rider going down unfortunately Violet had hit a sunken drain in the middle of the road undeterred Violet picked herself up and was adamant she was ok to continue after wiping down her face then after a quick fix to her mudguard with Paul's Zip tie style bike lock we continued on to Over Kellet, Burton in Kendal, We decide to visit the burger van in Milnthorpe and much to Karen's surprise the food was great. All Feed and watered we set off again Sandside, Arnside, Silverdale, Carnforth, Halton and back to Garstang vis Lancaster and Cockerham.
Arriving back at the Bellflower we met Sim's group and a few of the B2 riders.
Paul and I said our goodbyes and then headed north again just south of Lancaster for Paul and back to Heysham for myself.
A great day in all even better that we could ride as a club again albeit smaller groups with good weather although a little chilly. . Average pace 15.5mph, and I managed to get 100 miles in for my first ride outside for a long time. Hope you recover quickly Violet and well done on what was a long day for you including cycling back to Lytham after the ride.
